Emma Harper wants young people in the community to know that you don’t have to be an adult to make a difference.
Her positive attitude, selflessness and years of volunteerism in Burlington were recently recognized with the prestigious title of Junior Citizen of the Year from the city.
Harper, 17, said the award is very special to her.
“It’s an amazing feeling to know that you have someone who really believes in you, because as a teenager, you aren’t looked at in a positive light,” she told the Post. “There have been situations in my life that have really touched me and I decided I’m not going to sit back and let things happen. I’m the type of person who’s going to go and make that change. Getting this award gave me the boost I needed to keep going.”
