Aimed at raising funds to help match adults with children needing a mentor, the inaugural Recipe for Success event Saturday at Heron Creek Golf and Country Club also brought together like-minded people who appreciate the value of a child's success.
Walking among tables full of a diverse selection of dishes, Big Brothers Big Sisters CEO Joy Mahler said she was overwhelmed by the success of the event, but noted the evening also had a serious element.
"There are currently 40 children currently seeking Bigs in North Port right now," she said. "We believe that every child has the ability to be successful, and tonight is a wonderful way of getting that message across and achieving not only our aims, but their needs."
After talking to more than 15 chefs whose talents she judged, North Port City Commissioner Linda Yates praised the evening's concept.
