That "walkathon in our pocket feature" puts Striiv at the intersection of digital health, new sensor technology and social gaming and "pairing all that with donations and charities," says David Wang, CEO and co-founder of the new Redwood City, Calif., tech firm (also called Striiv, pronounced "strive").
Wang and Striiv lead designer Lexy Franklin were formerly with social game company Booyah and worked on Facebook game .
They sought a way to combine social games with the growing active video gaming trend fueled by the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Kinect and PlayStation Move. "We thought, what if you can take active gaming outside the living room?" says Franklin.
